This session will explore the unique characteristics and shared experiences of the PALOP nations(Países Africanos de Língua Oficial Portuguesa) and Brazil, and how these elements are reflected and expressed in their cinematic narratives. Understanding the historical and colonial contexts that shaped the PALOP countries and the influence of Portuguese colonization on language, traditions, and cultural practices. This foundation will lead us to analyze how PALOP filmmakers and artists depict social and cultural identities in their works, exploring themes of resistance, resilience, and identity, the evolution of cultural identity in the modern era and its impact on contemporary cinema, highlighting the role of film in preserving and promoting cultural heritage. This session aims to provide participants with a deeper understanding of the social and cultural dynamics of the PALOP countries and how these are intricately woven into their cinematic expressions.
