In the hot environment of a Pakistani city, preparations are underway for a fake wedding between young Hassan, who dreams of traveling to Europe, and young Slovak Roma Alžbetka, who believes the money earned from the fake wedding will help her and her girlfriend Mária on their journey to a better life.
Synopsis:
2012.
A young Slovak Roma woman, Mária, is in Pakistan with her partner Alžbetka, who is about to enter a fake marriage with Hassan. The goal is to produce photos depicting a believable love story Hassan can use to obtain an EU residence permit. Mária and Alžbetka plan to use the money to travel to the Netherlands, where they hope to marry legally and raise children together.
In a small Pakistani apartment, Mária and Alžbetka wait for Hassan, who is at mosque prayers. Alžbetka expresses doubts about spending the wedding night with Hassan. Mária reassures her, promising freedom after.
Hassan arrives and outlines the day: a photo shoot in the bedroom, a contract signing, and a small reception.
In the bedroom, Hassan takes selfies with a half-naked Alžbetka, who is uncomfortable. Mária quietly tells her to imagine it’s her, not Hassan. Alžbetka forces herself to go through it, appearing calm in the photos.
But Hassan suddenly kisses her; Alžbetka recoils and refuses to continue. Hassan apologizes but complains to Mária and snatches the money, promising to return it after the wedding night.
Mária hesitates, suggesting they call off the wedding and find another way. Alžbetka refuses, not wanting to start their life in the Netherlands this way.
